They lived in fear. There was a famine in Ireland, a war in Germany, and poverty in Poland.Those who were lucky enough to save passage to escape to America wrote home to their relatives of the rich opportunities in America. Many came because they heard that America promised land, homes and jobs to the poor farmers living in Europe and Asia. Only in America could dreams come true! |
