An Iditarod Diary
By Stephanie
Close your eyes and imagine swift, gentle snow shining in the sun’s rays all around you. The rhythm of the Siberian Huskies, dances through your heart and into your soul as they pull you and your sled. The excitement and views on the Iditarod trail are just what you’ve been hoping for. The air is crisp and you hear the dogs softly panting. Mist coming out of their mouths as you yell “Mush!”(= go or straight forward). The sky darkens and you know its time to feed the dogs and yourself. The dogs need to be checked. After, you know that you only sleep a few hours, but that’s enough as you drift away into sleep. Your first sleep on the Iditarod trail.

Lyrics of the Issue
By Ally
I polled fifth graders to find out what their favorite song was and found all the lyrics for the top two songs. The winners were “Love Song” and “Our Song.”
LOVE SONG by SARA BAREILLES

Head under water
And they tell me to breathe easy for a while
The breathing gets harder, even I know that
You made room for me but it's too soon to see
If I'm happy in your hands

I'm unusually hard to hold on to
Blank stares at blank pages
No easy way to say this
You mean well, but you make this hard on me
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's
Make or breaking this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I'm gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today

I learned the hard way
That they all say things you want to hear
And my heavy heart sinks deep down under you and
Your twisted words,
Your help just hurts
You are not what I thought you were
Hello to high and dry
Convinced me to please you
Made me think that I need this too
I'm trying to let you hear me as I am

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's
Make or breaking this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I'm gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today

Promise me that you'll leave the light on
To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone
'cause I believe there's a way you can love me
Because I say
I won't write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or breaking this
Is that why you wanted a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or breaking this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If your heart is nowhere in it
I don't want it for a minute
Babe, I'll walk the seven seas when I believe that
There's a reason to
Write you a love song today Death cap mushroom Dogs in the Iditarod

Can you imagine you and your buddy in the computer lab working on a Kid Pix project? We had lots of fun working with our buddies. Our experience was just amazing and the quotes and reactions were very positive.
Wouldn’t you agree working with a buddy is a sensational project? It’s splendid to learn that to teach a buddy on the computer is something everybody likes to do. I remember the time that I had a computer buddy named Emily. Emily is in Mrs. Danielson’s class at Willard School. Emily and I had to type up a sentence and draw a picture related to the sentence Emily wrote. We did this on KidPix. KidPix is a place where you can type, draw, paint and do lots more. I was happy that we got to do something like this. We had an amazing experience.
Student’s reactions were positive. Ally said, “Working with the first graders was an amazing experience and it made me feel I could really help someone else.” Erin said, “I loved to work with the first graders and it was enjoyable.” Olivia said, “It was a wonderful experience to be able to get to teach the younger kids.” Riley said, “It was crazy awesome because the kids were nice.” Kirsten said, “It was great to remember the kids and there ways of working.”
So can you believe working with a buddy in the computer lab? My experience was great and the children’s reactions were just marvelous. Thanks to Mrs. Weber and the fifth-grade teachers for thinking of this magnificent idea.
Our Song by Taylor Swift

I was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car
he's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel
the other on my heart
i look around, turn the radio down
he says baby is something wrong?
i say nothing i was just thinking how we don't have a song
and he says...

CHORUS
our song is the slamming screen door,
sneakin' out late, tapping on your window
when you're on the phone and you talk real slow
cause it's late and your mama don't know
our song is the way you laugh
the first date "man, i didn't kiss her, but i should have"
and when i got home...before i said amen
asking god if he could play it again

i was walking up the front porch steps after everything the day
had gone all wrong or been trampled on
and lost and thrown away
got to the hallway, well on my way to my lovin' bed
i almost didn't notice all the roses
and the note that said...

REPEAT CHORUS

I've heard every album, listened to the radio
waited for something to come along
that was as good as our song....

cause our song is the slamming screen door
sneaking out late, tapping on his window
when we're on the phone and he talks real slow
cause it's late and his mama don't know
our song is the way he laughs
the first date "man, i didn't kiss him, and i could have"
and when i got home, before i said amen
asking god if he could play it again

i was riding shotgun with my hair undone
in the front seat of his car
i grabbed a pen and an old napkin
and i...wrote down our song
