As
part of the FMF Teacher Program to Japan Follow-On Plan, I proposed
to write a series of articles for my hometown newspaper, the Berlin
Citizen (Berlin, CT). My goal was to share my preconceptions of Japanese
culture, my journeys in Japan, and my overall impressions of Japan
and its culture.

Education Compounded by Social Issues
Preview: For
three weeks during the month of October, I was fortunate to have
been
a participant
in the Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program to Japan. Having
recently returned to the United States, I am indeed eager to
share my experiences with my Social Studies classes at Berlin
High School, my colleagues, and the broader community. In a relatively
short amount of time, I experienced and learned much, and many
of my prior expectations of Japanese culture and education were
appreciably confirmed, while other preconceived notions were
quickly shattered...continued.
